This study presents the first operationalization of the concept of a ‘tense social environment’, identifying and validating the structure of psychological safety among students and teachers in Russia’s new regions. It develops and empirically tests models of psychological safety resources for both students and teachers, confirming their validity for addressing the challenges of providing psychological support to students living in a tense social environment. The study identifies students’ personal resources across different educational levels, providing a foundation for developing a psychological and pedagogical support model for students in Russia’s new regions and equipping it with relevant psychotechnologies. The study was conducted with financial support from the Russian Ministry of Education in 2024–25.
